In the CHARACTERS series, DiPinto brings the human figure into his practice without relying on literal portraiture. These works suggest presences rather than depict individuals. Figures emerge from texture, line and colour, as if shaped by memory rather than observation. Each canvas holds a psychological charge, evoking stories, identities and states of mind that remain open to interpretation.
The titles deepen this sense of narrative and emotion, pointing toward themes such as vulnerability, belief, inner conflict and the weight of experience. The figures seem suspended between visibility and disappearance, grounded yet unstable, as though they occupy both the material world and an interior one. Texture functions like a scar or trace, giving the bodies a history etched into the surface.
CHARACTERS expands DiPinto’s exploration of form by linking abstraction to lived experience. These works invite the viewer to encounter not just a figure, but a presence reminding us that the human image can be both universal and deeply intimate at the same time.
